Sample tour itinerary (every tour will be different depending on conditions)
Day 1
- Flights London Heathrow – Kiruna via Stockholm
- Arrive Kiruna
- Transfer to dog kennels to meet your team and load your sledge ready for the adventure
- 1 st trip usually around 2 -3 hours driving sledges before settling at camp.
- Evening tasks can include settling and feeding dogs, drawing water from the lake/river, chopping wood and preparing the sauna.
Day 2-6
- An early start to feed the dogs and prepare yourself with a good breakfast before departing. Often day 2 is where the terrain can get more mountainous and there is good possibility to see reindeer. Generally 10km-30 km can be covered in the morning before stopping for a well earned lunch cooked over an open fire.
- The afternoon trip will cover roughly another 10-30km depending on the terrain before arriving at the next camp. On arrival the tasks will be similar – to ensure the dogs are settled and fed as well as ensuring there is wood and water to warm the cabins and prepare the food.
- Once these are done then there is regularly opportunity to try ice fishing, wildlife watching and cross country skiing as well as some camps having the possipility of lighting outside fires so you can keep warm as you stay up late looking for the northern lights.
Day 7
- Another early start but by now you will be back on the flatter terrain and it is a short sledge drive back to the kennels.
- Once back you unload your sledge, return the arctic clothing and say goodbye to your dogs before the transfer to the airport and return flights back to the UK.
